Introducing: commun~

something incomplete,
something stretch-
ing out, staking time,
space, and desire
to feel and fill out,
becoming…

(in / as
loose assemblies)

something
ungovernable,
perhaps evoking,
approaching, those
hows and whats in:
commoning,
communing,
communicating,
communising…

Against isolation, let’s gather!

Turning the usual quiet of the library over to a more social mode, commun~ is an informal recurring hang out for chats, questions, and to meet fellow visitors and supporters of the infoshop. Bring something to share, be it a drink or snack, an offer of a skill, an ask for assistance, a poem or story, a project you’d like to start with someone, something else you’ve made, or just simply your self with warmth!

On a typical visit, you might’ve met our space as a cosy reading room, and many have welcomed this, sticking around not just to read or work, but also finding rest. Yet there's still more potential to this; we’ve always intended to inhabit the infoshop in different ways, to realise the possibilities that come from encounter, especially in an autonomous social space offering something other than more of the consumptive mode. Faced with the intensely isolating basis of contemporary life, shaped by the crisis normal of capital, state, and nation, do we know anyone well enough to call on to build another possible world with? Crushed by work, our powerlessness is evident in the constant cycles of burnout and exhaustion propped up by individualist “self-care”, while professional activists egg you on to show up and just be counted in plans already decided by someone else. What else is there? How are we to act with agency and for shared life in common? Apart from just meeting the library's texts, what could happen when we stake time to meet and find each other? As with anything new, it will be a challenge, but come help shape the path with these first steps.

Find dates and times for commun~ open hangs posted on the website, instagram, and discord.

Priority and preference is for returning visitors, but all acting in good faith are welcome!
