Does it matter now? Why force it? At what point of planning an event or maintaining a space should one give up? When capacity is stretched, doubts mount, disagreement arises, or things break and become “inefficient”, should plans and desires still be tended to, and how? How thoroughly does this society own our motions and notions of success, the “optimal” already conditioned and demanded by the measures, temporality, and spatiality of extraction? Optimised rational frictionless clockwork toil.
What are ways to plan, to be in touch, to do together that do not eat us up and yet reject the idealised? What exhaustions made the very question begin from a conclusion, presupposing defeat? Are there orientations other than metrics and outcomes, such as joy, fulfilment, affinity, potentiality, stakes, which give shape to living processes? How do the affective and intangible meet with material needs and urgencies, and grip and gather for the coming fights?
Maybe there’s just trying, beginning, failing, day by day.
From our text in January since made into a bookmark as a reminder:
“Consider uncertainty as something that could possibly be embraced. There is no perfect knowledge, no perfect time, no perfect plan. Our attempts are made in the now, and could very well falter.”
These are the first events we’re attempting in years, trying out a new tool for registration, motions that can feel small and pointless, but could they build up, brick by brick?
Across The Peoples Want’s internationalist manifesto is a sense of nurturing being teased out. In the wake of crushed uprisings, or in the times before the next, the always previously unimaginable or plain forgotten and buried moments of rupture, what do we do, how do we encounter each other, and where? What muscles and habits are trained, practiced, in preparation? What life is being staked upon as both means and end? What worlds will be birthed?

We join with a modest and late contribution many others around the world responding to the Mujawara month of action called by The Peoples Want. As an act of “neighbouring”, these events aim to raise funds in support of folks from Sudan and Syria building new autonomous social spaces, and are also a reason for us to meet each other and think through “internationalism from below” in the local context: what is our place here at the crossroads and as a logistical and financial hub for empires? What do we do from the long crisis under social pacification? How do we practice a revolutionary tenderness?
On Monday, we convene a reading group around the internationalist manifesto, and then on Saturday, a commun~ hang out framed by ideas from this and other texts, with an open pinback button pressing activity. All donations and half of proceeds after cost from the sales of distro prints, publications, and drinks during these events will go to the Mujawara call.
